A long time ago, in a research lab far, far away, I led a small team of engineers who had an idea to take the MXF standard and implement it in software with just enough functionality so that you could take an MXF file and:
- check its MXF properties
- play it
- unwrap it
- wrap it back up again
- dump the file to see its values
Like a great cheese that’s a little ahead of its time, it attracted a few users in the early days of 2005. We matured it a little and like a great cheese that was becoming ripe, the number of people who liked it grew steadily and it got great reviews. The small engineering team split when AmberFin was spun out from its “Mother Ship” and, like a great cheese that wasn’t receiving any attention, MXF Desktop started to grow mouldy and unsatisfying.
NOW IT’S BACK! I’m really excited about this. We put a new team onto it and redesigned it from the ground up to work better than before. The new MXF Desktop engine room gives us the ability to plan many of the great feature enhancements that you’ve asked for. We’re going to provide an MXF Desktop Pro for people who need support and to allow us to fund the special features that you need. MXF Desktop has had a facelift to give it a modern look and to make it more tablet friendly for those using windows 8 or RDP connections.
MXF Desktop is STILL FREE – Yahoo!
It’s nearly baked and nearly ready for release, but we need some more testers to squeak it so that we can gather some feedback on which features to keep turned on, which features to turn off and which bugs are left prior to the big release.
If you would like to be a Beta tester, please click on our sign up link and put your name forward. We only have a limited number of places on the Beta program, so if you’re not selected, then I’m sorry but you’ll have to wait for the official release.
If you are selected, then we will need you to fill in our survey at the end of the first day and at the end of the first week so that you can help us make MXF Dekstop better. This is a very exciting moment, and I do hope that you’ll be able to join in.
’till next time
